Big Apple Thanksgiving Day Parade

by Jess Guim on Mar.11, 2010, under Amateur Photography, Big Apple Images, Digital Camera, New York City Attractions, New York City Photography, New York City Tourist Spots

The Thanksgiving Day parade is one of the biggest and longest parade of the Big Apple. This is celebrated with giant balloons, colorful floats, marching bands, and invited big stars from Hollywood.  The Macy’s Department Store is the biggest sponsor of this parade. The parade with giant balloons started as a tradition in New York City since 1924. Millions of people wait and see at the side of streets to watch the parade, and get amazed by giant balloons on air, and waved at (sometimes, with flying kisses) by Hollywood starts from their respective floats.

by Jess Guim on Feb.19, 2010, under Amateur Photography, Big Apple Images, Digital Camera, New York City Attractions, New York City Photography, New York City Tourist Spots

The East River is a strait that separates Manhattan from Queens and Long Island. The East River is a good place to view the skyscrapers of Manhattan from the Queensboro bridge to the southern part of the island. Most visible buildings from the East River are United Nations and the Trump building nearby. There are eight bridges that cross this river, and 13 tunnels for subway trains and other vehicles run under this river.

Steel Beams Cross of Twin Towers

by Jess Guim on Feb.19, 2010, under Amateur Photography, Big Apple Images, Digital Camera, New York City Attractions, New York City Photography, New York City Tourist Spots

The steel beam cross from the remnants of the fallen Twin Towers stands as a religious symbol to believers. This cross was once erected at the ground zero. But because of the developing construction at the place, the cross was erected across the street of the ground zero. The World Trade Center cross is an inspiration to WTC workers and loved ones left by the September 11, 2001 victims.

Union Square

by Jess Guim on Feb.17, 2010, under Amateur Photography, Big Apple Images, Digital Camera, New York City Attractions, New York City Photography, New York City Tourist Spots

The Union Square is a historical intersection, once called as Union Station of several trolley lines on the early 19th century. History books about New York City mention this place as a location also for union demonstrations and pickets in the early days. The Broadway Avenue and Fourth Avenue (formerly Bowery Road) meet at this square. Currently, this place is also the location for Green Farm Market, where fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers are sold by farmers and small-time businessmen comging from neighboring boroughs and states.
